ABOUT ME

Gwen Flanders, author of several children's books including Prudence's Prize-Winning Pie, Traveling by Whirlwind, and A Throne of Her Own, resides in Charlotte, NC near her children and grandchildren. She is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and fell in love with children's fiction while working as a pre-school teacher. Some of her favorite books are Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls; Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh; Ramona the Pest by Beverly Cleary; Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren; and James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl.
Gwen began her journey in journalism during college covering sports and local events for a small-town newspaper as well as writing for several online magazines and blogs. After college, she worked as a pre-school teacher where she fell in love with children’s fiction and eventually picked up her pen to write her own. Some of her other unique work experiences include contributing artist for Hippie Fest, operating and performing in her own singing telegram business (Chicken Scratch), and co-owner of an organic market named Nude Food.
When she’s not writing books, she still loves to write and compete in Flash Fiction and has published her own chapbook of Poetry. Currently, she is working on a chapter book series about Prudence, a full-length romantic comedy novel, and a collection of reimagined fables and fairytales.
